The Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan launched the KFON(Kerala Fiber Optic Network) in the state to provide high-speed, affordable internet connectivity to every household. He said that KFON will revolutionize the digital space. The service will be provided to 20 lakh BPL families, including villages 30,000 government offices, and educational institutes in all 14 districts of Kerala. The remaining people under this scheme can get cheap internet connections. The cabinet has approved Rs. 1548 crore for the implementation of the scheme.
KFON is a radical public-funded project conceived to ensure high-speed internet access to an entire state. The project was granted administrative approval on May 18, 2017. It was supposed to be completed in December 2021. Kerala state Electricity Board (KSEB) along with Kerala state IT infrastructure LTD. are going to implement a free internet connection scheme in the state.

Kerala K FON Broadband Connection Registration 2023
This project is divided into 2 phases. The first phase of the K-FON project to provide free internet connection was inaugurated online by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on February 15. over 1,000 government institutions in seven districts were provided connectivity in the first phase. Optical fiber cable has been laid along 7,200 km across the state. The first phase of the KFON project was to be completed in June 2022 and 120 crores were allocated for it.
KFON will be set up as an infrastructural backbone that provides high-speed internet service to the public. The network is provided to local people by the local telecom operators and internet service providers. The telecom operator can lease a portion of the network from KFON and provide the high-speed network to the consumer. The free internet was to be provided to 30,000 government institutions by July 2021. It is likely to be completed end of the year or by the middle of the next year. However, it got delayed due to multiple factors including the coronavirus pandemic.
K Phone Connection Price
In the first phase, 500 free connections will be provided to each constituency. The total no of constituencies in the state is 140 so; a total of 70,000 beneficiaries will get connections. The government has identified 14,000 beneficiaries. Local departments are allocated for the identification of the beneficiary. They will hand over the beneficiary list to the local internet service providers.
The government has invited tenders from local internet service providers. In one district, only one service provider will be allowed. This plan provides a speed of 100Mbps with 1GB of data consumption a day. KFON plans to lay 52,746 kilometers of optical cable across the state.
The KFON generally provided the platform for other internet service providers. With the help of KFON, any service provider can provide internet to any consumer in the state. The government offices, local self-government establishments, hospitals, educational institutions, and around 20 lakh households will be aimed to receive free internet. February 2023 Mr. Balagopal promises free internet connection for 7000 families through the KFON project.

The K Phone Kerala Registration and connection will be provided to the people by the local vendor. The concerned department will provide all the details of the eligible beneficiaries and provide them with internet connections. How connections will be provided that’s not clear. The state had declared internet connectivity as a basic need.
